SIMANJIRO NABERERA (G.C.A) INTRODUCTION:

  • The area is easily reached from arusha city about 1:30 hours and 90km by road via almost all-weather roads to Nakotela camp. Between Latitudes: 36.90 and 36.83

Longitudes: -4.18 and -4.14.

 TOPOGRAPHY:

The terrain ranges from flat plains to scattered ridges or rows of hills. The elevation ranges from 560m to 2123m above sea level. The majority of the flood plains contain black/cotton soils, but the hills have weak soils that are prone to erosion. If you’re looking for a unique gift, this is the place to be. The majority of the vegetation has adapted well to arid circumstances and recurrent droughts. Bush fires are common in the area, and are typically initiated by livestock herders to fend off pests such as ticks and tsetse fly, as well as to promote green foliage growth for their cattle.

CLIMATE:

  • The warm season lasts from December to March with an average daily high temperature above 26.6˚C.
  • The hottest month of the year is February, with an average high of 27.7˚C and low 15.5˚C
  • The cool season lasts for three months from June to August, with an average daily temperature below 22.7˚C.
  • The coldest month of the year is July, with an average low of 12.7˚C and high of 21.6˚C
  • The wetter season lasts from November to May, where by April the month of most wet days
  • The drier season lasts from June to October of the year

WILD LIFE:

  • This block is part of Manyara and Tarangire ecological system. The closest being Tarangire national park about 90km to the east. Animals migrating from Tarangire national park have to pass through Simanjiro naberera game-controlled areas.

A list will include the following in order of size but not necessarily in abundance:

All the big FIVE are present except the RHINO which was wiped out in the seventies.

  1. Largest size: Buffalo African cape, Eland Patersons, Hartebeest Coke’s, Kudu Greater, Oryx fringed eared, Wildebeest eastern white bearded and Zebra.
  2. Medium size: Bushbuck masai, Gazelle Grant’s, Gazelle Thomson’s, Impala, Kudu Lesser, Reedbuck bohor, Reedbuck Mountain, Bushpig, Warthog, Leopard, Hyaena spotted, Jackal common, Jackal silver backed and Jackal side striped.
  3. Small size: Dikdik kirk’s, Klipspringer, Duiker common, Steinbuck, Vervet Monkey, Civet African, Genet Common, Porcupine Crested, Serval Cat and Zorilla

Important birds include:

  • Ostrich, game birds-francolins, Spurfowls, vulturine Guinea fowl, helmeted Guineafowl, crested Guinea fowl, quails; water birds-ducks and geese; sandgrouses, doves and pigeons. Bastards; birds of prey-vultures, eagles, falcons, kites, owls, etc.

WATER RESOURCES:

  • One permanent water source located northern area of the hunting block refer point between coordinate SN-21 and SN-22 in map of Simanjiro Naberera GCA hunting block attached to certificate of allocation.
  • Simanjiro naberera game control area as a whole only has one permanent surface water source. Most of the water is through water holes and seasonal rivers during rainy seasons.
